About Mother Angelica:
It would be hard to mention EWTN or the Shrine without first mentioning Mother Angelica. Abandoned by her father at age 5, and raised by a mother who was manic-depressive, this amazing woman took on the world and became the founder of what became the largest religious broadcasting network in the world. Her many challenges---both physical---and political--are a testament to her love of Jesus and her determination to serve Him.
The history of the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament & Our Lady of Angels Monastery:
In 1995, Mother Angelica traveled to Colombia to raise funds and seek assistance for EWTN’s Spanish programs. She was invited by Salesian Father Juan Pablo Rodriguez to attend Mass at the Sanctuary of the Divine Infant Jesus in Bogotá, Colombia. It was here where Mother Angelica heard the words that gave her a new mission: to build a shrine honoring the True Presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
What followed is the magnificent Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville.
About the Shrine & Monastery:
Located about an hour away from the EWTN studios, you will find the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament as well as Our Lady of the Angels Monastery. The Shrine includes both a church and a monastery modeled on the great Italian churches of the 13th Century. The piazza allows for a place of sanctuary before entering in to the sanctuary itself. The marble floors have inlaid crosses made of Jasper, the hard rock-like material used in the Temple of Jerusalem. The tabernacle is the center of the Church, as it should be, and is over 7 feet tall.
Mother Angelica was a Poor Clare Nun of Perpetual Adoration and it is here that she lived, along with the other sisters of her order live. Mother Angelica had a stroke in 2001, and was no longer was able to take an active role at EWTN.
She passed away on Easter Sunday, 2016. We are sure her prayers are still offered up for the success of this ministry.

About EWTN and Mother Angelica:
In 1981, through the efforts of a feisty nun we know as Mother Angelica, a switch was flipped that started what is now the world's largest Catholic radio and television network. At that time few people envisioned what it would become: the largest religious media network in the world.
It now transmits programming 24 hours a day to more than 230 million homes in 144 countries and territories on more than 4,800 cable systems, wireless cable, Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS), low power TV and individual satellite users.
Her story is an amazing one that shows the power of faith when everyone politely (and not so politely) told her that it could not be done. The story of her efforts and the miraculous way in which things came about makes great reading. As she once said: "You see, God expects His people to do the ridiculous so He can do the miraculous."
You are invited to come tour the studios, be part of the live audience of one of the shows and participate in daily Mass in the chapel.
